According to foreign media reports, Apple has applied to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for a patent entitled "Electronic Devices with Foldable Display Screens". The patent reminds Apple of its plan to develop a foldable LCD display screen that can be heated actively and is not easy to crack in polar cold weather.
It's hard to say whether Apple will launch a foldable mobile phone, but an analyst at Bank of America Merrill Lynch has claimed that Apple may launch a foldable display phone in 2020.
Apple explained: "In order to bend on the bending axis without damaging the display screen in cold conditions, selective heating can be performed on the parts stacked with the bending axis."
Partial display stack bends may be illuminated by the display of pyrolysis furnace pixels. Partial display stack bends may be heated by a heating element or other heating structure, and a portion of the heat supply shows stack bends.
Apple's patents give us an early glimpse of how the company is trying to improve the durability of foldable display screens. Like all other patents, there is no guarantee that it will become a reality.
There have been rumors that the company, led by Tim Cook, is working with LG Display to develop a foldable mobile phone.
