Forecast For 2020: Oversupply of LCD Panels For E-sports Monitors

In 2020, LCD panel factory adjusts its product line, reduces TV panel output, and turns to monitor panel, especially the growing e-sports application panel. IHS Markit pointed out that according to the LCD panel factory shipping target, e-sports monitor LCD panel shipments will exceed 20 million pieces in 2020, but e-sports monitor market demand is only 10 million units a year, e-sports panel market is expected to face a serious oversupply.

LCD panel manufacturers began to promote to machine manufacturers, so that 144Hz or 165Hz monitors become the standard specification for all consumer monitors, so that consumers can not only be used for games, video, but also turn off the high refresh rate option for work use.

However, machine manufacturers are still considering the premium cost of high refresh rate monitors, IHS Markit survey shows that a number of mainland second-tier brands have achieved success by using high refresh rate monitors and then promoting low-cost e-sports monitors in the end market. At present, the demand for consumer monitors accounts for about 20% to 25% of the overall monitor market. It is expected that second-tier brands in mainland China will continue to use high refresh rate monitors as standard consumer monitors, e-sports monitor prices will decline, the penetration rate will also increase.

So far, most low-end e-sports monitor models still use 60Hz, but some mainland second-tier brands have planned to include 144Hz in their entry-level e-sports monitor models to compete with other brands of 60Hz e-sports monitors.
